Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is engaged to Estelle Bergkamp, the daughter of Arsenal and Netherlands legend Dennis Bergkamp.
Donny van de Beek may not have fulfilled expectations at Manchester United, but his personal life is firmly on track. The 28-year-old Dutch midfielder is engaged to Estelle Bergkamp, daughter of Arsenal and Netherlands icon Dennis Bergkamp.
Estelle Bergkamp, aged 30, confirmed the engagement on Instagram, sharing photos of the proposal and writing: “The easiest YES ever.”
The couple have been together since 2019, when Van de Beek was still playing for Ajax. They now have two children together, daughter Lomee, aged three, and a one-year-old son named Navy.
Dennis Bergkamp also showed his approval, reacting to the announcement with heart emojis in the comments.
Van de Beek joined Manchester United in 2020 for £40 million, but his spell at Old Trafford never took off. He made just 62 appearances across four seasons before being sold to Girona for an initial fee of just over £420,000.
His time in England was repeatedly disrupted by injuries. In January 2023, just as he was beginning to feature more regularly under Erik ten Hag, he suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for six months.
Across his final three seasons at the club, Van de Beek made only 16 appearances and was sent on loan to Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt.
After moving to Girona, the Dutch midfielder enjoyed a more stable first season, but his current campaign has been cut short by a serious Achilles tendon rupture.
Reflecting on his difficult spell in England, Van de Beek previously admitted the timing worked against him.
“I think it was quite unlucky. When you start to play more and then you get injured, you have to restart again. New players come in and you are back on the bench,” he told The Athletic.
“Mentally it’s not easy. The situation at the club wasn’t stable, the coach changed, and everything became chaotic,” he added.
While his club career has been marked by setbacks, Van de Beek is now preparing for a major milestone off the pitch, joining one of football’s most famous families.
