Carlos Vela’s €4 million Malibu mansion was completely gutted in a devastating Los Angeles wildfire, as his wife shared their shock and sadness on social media.
The Los Angeles area is currently battling several large fires, many of which remain uncontained. Officials have confirmed at least 10 deaths, with fears that the toll could rise as investigators gain access to more affected neighborhoods. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated, with around 10,000 properties destroyed and estimated damages reaching tens of billions of euros.
Among those affected by the disaster is Carlos Vela, the 35-year-old Mexican footballer and former Arsenal player, who now stars for Los Angeles FC in the MLS. Vela’s wife, Saioa Canibano, revealed on Instagram that their luxurious Malibu home was lost in the fire.
"Our beautiful home in Malibu burned down yesterday. We are still in shock from everything that is happening. It is very sad and scary to see everything burning," Canibano wrote. She added, "To all the messages of concern that are being sent to us, I respond that we are safe. Sending lots of love to everyone affected and we hope that they will be able to put out the fire soon."
Carlos Vela made his name in Europe after joining Arsenal as a teenager. Following several loan spells and a successful four-year stint at Real Sociedad, he moved to the MLS in 2016, where he quickly established himself as one of the league’s best players. In 2019, he was named MLS MVP, solidifying his reputation as a top talent in American football.
Vela and his family are among the many residents of Malibu and Los Angeles dealing with the aftermath of the fires. While they are safe, the emotional and financial toll on those affected continues to grow as firefighting efforts carry on across the region.
