Carles Pérez, the former Barcelona and Roma winger, has been hospitalized in Greece after suffering a rare and extremely painful injury—he was bitten in the testicles by a dog while walking in Thessaloniki.
The 27-year-old, currently playing for Aris Salonika on loan from Celta Vigo, had only just arrived in Greece a few weeks ago. But during a walk with his own dog, another unleashed dog attacked him, resulting in a deep and serious wound in a highly sensitive area.
Local reports say Pérez was attempting to de-escalate the situation when the dog lunged. The bite was severe enough to require hospitalization, and he has already spent two days in hospital. There are concerns that surgery may be necessary, depending on the healing process in the coming days.
The incident took place in an area of Thessaloniki reportedly known for its population of stray dogs—a growing issue in many parts of Greece. It’s believed the attacker was not a pet, but a stray that approached quickly and aggressively.
Carles Pérez was once considered one of the bright prospects at Barcelona, making 13 appearances for the senior team before spells with Roma and Celta Vigo. He had just joined Aris on a season-long loan to get more playing time and revive his career.
