Lucio, the legendary former defender of the Brazilian national team, has shared his first public photo and message from the hospital following a terrifying accident that left him with serious burns to 18 percent of his body.
The 2002 World Cup champion and 2010 Champions League winner with Inter Milan was injured in a fireplace explosion a few days ago and remains in intensive care, but his condition is stable. Lucio is facing a long recovery process, but as he showed in his post, he is both physically and spiritually resilient.
In a photo posted on Instagram, Lucio appears in a hospital gown with visible bandages and burn dressings. Despite the trauma, the 45-year-old showed strength and faith, quoting a passage from the Bible and thanking God for surviving the ordeal.
"I owe my survival to the one in heaven," Lucio wrote, expressing deep gratitude to medical staff, family, and fans for their support.
Lucio retired from football in 2020. Over his remarkable career, he earned 105 caps for Brazil, won the 2002 World Cup, and had club success with Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, and Inter Milan.
Doctors have not yet specified when Lucio might be discharged, but his message suggests a strong will to recover fully and move forward.
