Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has left Belgian side Beerschot and taken over as head coach of Dutch second-tier club Dordrecht, aiming to lead them back to the Eredivisie.
Dirk Kuyt is returning to the Dutch football scene after leaving his post as head coach of Belgian side Beerschot. The former Liverpool and Netherlands international has been appointed as the new manager of FC Dordrecht.
Kuyt joined Beerschot in December 2023 but failed to keep the club in Belgium’s top division. Despite limited resources and a struggling squad, he gained credit for his work under challenging circumstances.
Now, Kuyt takes charge at Dordrecht, a club with ambitions to return to the Eredivisie. The club finished fifth in the Dutch second tier last season and narrowly missed promotion, losing on penalties to Willem II in the play-offs after a dramatic two-legged tie.
It will be Kuyt’s third senior club managerial job, having previously managed ADO Den Haag and Beerschot, in addition to coaching Feyenoord’s U19 team. He also began his coaching career as an assistant with Quick Boys.
Dordrecht last played in the Eredivisie in the 2014/15 season and will hope Kuyt’s experience and high-level pedigree can help guide them back to the top flight of Dutch football.
