Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool move is falling apart, with injury struggles and lack of form limiting him to just 78 minutes this season. The club may sell him in January.
Once one of Italy’s brightest stars, Federico Chiesa has seen his career stall after his heroic performances at Euro 2020, where he helped Italy secure the title of European champions. Since that career-defining tournament, Chiesa's form has steadily declined, and his recent move to Liverpool appears to have done little to reverse the trend.
The 27-year-old winger was allowed to leave Juventus this summer by the club’s new coach, Thiago Motta, in a decision that surprised many.
Liverpool, one of England's most iconic clubs, seemed like a great opportunity for Chiesa to reignite his career. However, persistent injury issues have severely limited his impact at Anfield, with the Italian managing just 78 minutes of playing time so far this season.
Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, recently addressed Chiesa’s struggles, attributing them to the intensity of Premier League football, which he says is a significant step up from Serie A.
“Federico comes from Serie A, where the intensity is lower than in the Premier League. He is struggling to reach the required fitness level. I feel very sorry for him because he has to skip training sessions all the time,” said Slot.
Rumors in England suggest that Liverpool might be ready to sell Chiesa as early as January, potentially sparking interest from Serie A clubs. Roma, in particular, have shown considerable interest in the past and could see this as an opportunity to bring the Italian international back to his homeland.
