Gian Piero Gasperini is expected to leave Atalanta after nine years, with Roma and Napoli interested in appointing the experienced coach.
Speculation surrounding Gian Piero Gasperini’s future at Atalanta is intensifying, with the 66-year-old coach hinting that his time with the club may be coming to an end. Following Atalanta’s unexpected exit from the Champions League and his public criticism of Ademola Lookman, pressure has mounted on the experienced manager. Now, Roma and Napoli are closely monitoring the situation, prepared to make a move should Gasperini decide to leave.
With Claudio Ranieri only under contract at Roma until the end of the season, the capital club is seeking a long-term replacement. Meanwhile, Napoli is reportedly considering Gasperini as an alternative to Antonio Conte, whose position is uncertain despite having a contract until 2027. Napoli’s leadership is reportedly unsatisfied with the team’s current standing in Serie A, fueling speculation that changes could be made this summer.
Gasperini himself acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his future in a recent statement:
“This might be the beginning of the end. My contract runs until 2026, but I can confirm that it will not be extended. The question is whether I will stay until then or leave as early as the end of this season.”
Since taking charge of Atalanta in 2016, Gasperini has transformed the club into a consistent force in both domestic and European competitions. Over 427 matches, he has guided the team to 222 wins, 99 draws, and 106 losses, while establishing a reputation for his attacking football and intense coaching style. However, his tenure has also been marked by conflicts with players, most notably with Papu Gómez, who left the club in January 2021 after clashing with the coach.
With Roma and Napoli both eager to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, Gasperini’s potential availability could spark a managerial shake-up in Serie A.
