Barcelona fans gave a thunderous applause to Gavi, the young star, who played his first match after eleven months on the sidelines.
The atmosphere at Montjuïc was celebratory yesterday as Barcelona crushed Sevilla in front of their home fans. In the 83rd minute, a moment that brought many to their feet occurred.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick sent Gavi onto the pitch, marking his first appearance after a long eleven months away from football, a break caused by a severe knee injury that had interrupted his meteoric rise.
Gavi received a standing ovation upon his return to the field, and after the match, he admitted that the moment he stepped onto the pitch was very emotional for him.
"I am very happy to be back. I dreamed of this moment for months, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who made this process easier for me. The hardest thing is not being able to play. Watching the team from the sidelines is very difficult. I feel incredibly lucky to be here again," said the 20-year-old Gavi, who made his comeback just in time for a spectacular week for Barcelona, with two big matches ahead—against Bayern in the Champions League on Wednesday and Real Madrid in La Liga at the weekend.
