Barcelona midfielder Gavi received medical clearance after 172 days out with a knee injury and could return against Sevilla in La Liga.
Barcelona received major encouragement ahead of their La Liga clash with Sevilla after the club confirmed that Gavi has finally received medical clearance to return to the pitch.
The Spanish midfielder spent the last 172 days recovering from a knee problem that kept him out of action since the end of September 2025.
The injury involved the meniscus in his right knee, which forced the player to undergo arthroscopic surgery in order to repair the damaged inner cartilage.
After months of rehabilitation and careful physical work, the young midfielder has now fully recovered and could receive his first minutes in Sunday’s league match.
Gavi was already included in the squad earlier this week during Barcelona’s trip to Newcastle at St James’ Park, but at that time he had not yet received official medical clearance to play.
The timing of his return also carries an interesting coincidence.
The last time the midfielder returned from a major injury, his comeback also came against Sevilla. Following a serious knee injury suffered during a Spain national team match in 2023, he made his return to club football on October 20, 2024, again facing the Andalusian side.
Now the same opponent could witness another important moment in the young star’s career.
The return of Gavi represents a major boost for coach Hansi Flick, who has missed the energy, pressing ability, and creativity that the midfielder normally brings to Barcelona’s midfield.
Despite his young age, the Andalusian already holds a prominent place in the team and remains one of the most exciting talents in world football.
His reputation grew rapidly after winning the prestigious Golden Boy award, given to the best young footballer in Europe.
If everything goes according to plan, Barcelona supporters could finally see one of their most beloved players back on the pitch after nearly six months of absence.
