Hajduk coach Gennaro Gattuso has assured that he will do everything in his power to keep rising Croatian football star Bruno Durdov grounded in reality.

Hajduk’s season started tumultuously, with Ivan Perišić and sporting director Nikola Kalinić leaving the club after internal disputes, not to mention the surprising exit in the Conference League qualifiers against modest Slovak side Ružomberok, which raised doubts about coach Gattuso.

However, the saying ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ seems to apply to Hajduk, as the team has stabilized and now sits at the top of the Croatian league table. Additionally, a player who could potentially become the next big star of Croatian football is emerging at meteoric speed.

The 16-year-old Bruno Durdov has already scored three goals in the Croatian league, but the experienced Gattuso emphasized after a big win against Šibenik that too much hype could harm Durdov and that he will do everything to keep the young player grounded.

"Football doesn’t care about age. The one who performs best in training plays, and Bruno Durdov is one of those players. However, we mustn’t turn him into a star—not us, not the journalists. He hasn’t done anything yet, but he could become a star. As a coach, I will do everything to make sure that happens," said Gattuso.
