The DFB has received a record-breaking 1.7 million ticket requests for the German Cup final between Arminia Bielefeld and Stuttgart, far exceeding the stadium's capacity.
Who would have thought that a third-division team facing a mid-table Bundesliga side could generate such an unprecedented buzz?
Following Arminia Bielefeld’s fairytale run to the DFB-Pokal final, the excitement surrounding this year’s German Cup climax has reached extraordinary levels. Arminia will face Stuttgart—currently 11th in the Bundesliga—on May 24 at the iconic Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Despite the matchup lacking traditional giants like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund, the German Football Association (DFB) confirmed that ticket demand has shattered all previous records.
Nearly 1.7 million ticket requests were submitted for the final—an incredible figure considering the stadium’s maximum capacity is just 74,500. This means over 1.6 million fans will be left without a ticket.
The DFB expressed amazement at the enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled by the level of interest, but of course, we regret that we can’t accommodate everyone. The demand is unlike anything we've ever seen.”
They also issued a strong warning against ticket resale, stressing that any unauthorized transactions will be prosecuted. The organization reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair access to tickets and protecting fans from overpriced secondary markets.
While the finalists may not be football heavyweights, their unexpected showdown has clearly captured the hearts of fans across Germany—proving that magic still exists in the cup.
