Before the final match of the recently concluded European Championship in Germany, German police, with the help of intelligence services, prevented a potential terrorist attack.
The European Championship in Germany went off without major incidents, which is a commendable achievement given the millions of spectators in stadiums and fan zones. It appears that the German authorities did an excellent job.
They also responded well before the final match between Spain and England in Berlin, as there was a credible suspicion that a terrorist attack was being planned.
German police arrested three individuals and raided their homes. These were suspicious individuals who were allegedly planning a terrorist attack in the center of Berlin. Several other individuals were also sought and monitored by the police during Euro 2024.
The arrested suspects were reportedly known to the police and were believed to have sympathies for the so-called Islamic State. Police found photos of Breitscheidplatz on their phones, where jihadists killed 12 people in a terrorist attack in 2016.
