Germany loses another top talent as 18-year-old Ibrahim Maza chooses to represent Algeria over the German national team.
Hertha BSC’s rising star, Ibrahim Maza, has made the decision to represent Algeria on the international stage, despite being eligible to play for Germany. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who has played a key role in Hertha’s squad this season, had already represented Germany at the U18, U19, and U20 levels.
Maza’s choice to commit to Algeria comes despite strong efforts from the DFB to keep him in the German national setup. According to U20 coach Hannes Wolf, Maza sees his preferred position, the number 10, as being blocked by top talents like Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Paul Wanner.
Maza, whose father is Algerian, joins a growing list of promising German-born players who have opted to represent other countries, including Kenan Yildiz, Can Uzun, and Eren Dinkci, who all chose Turkey.
