Atletico Madrid became the first team to secure a spot in the Copa del Rey semi-finals after a dominant 5-0 victory over Getafe, with Giuliano Simeone stealing the spotlight.
The Simeone family is well known in football, with all three of Diego Pablo Simeone’s sons pursuing professional careers. Until now, the most accomplished had been Giovanni Simeone, who enjoyed a strong career in Italy but is currently struggling at Napoli, where he has scored just one goal this season and mostly remains on the bench.
Gianluca Simeone, the second-oldest, plays in Spain’s fourth division for Rayo Majadahonda. However, it is Giuliano Simeone who is now making the biggest impact, featuring regularly for Atletico Madrid this season.
Giuliano delivered his best performance yet for Los Rojiblancos, scoring two goals in their resounding quarter-final victory over Getafe. The 21-year-old has now made 27 appearances this season, contributing four goals and five assists across all competitions.
Atletico’s other goals came from Samuel Lino, Ángel Correa, and Alexander Sørloth, sealing a commanding win.
What’s next in the Copa del Rey?
The remaining quarter-final fixtures include Leganés vs. Real Madrid today, while Real Sociedad vs. Osasuna and Barcelona vs. Valencia are scheduled for Thursday.
