Givairo Read, Feyenoord’s 18-year-old right-back, has openly declared his desire to join Liverpool, amid speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club.
Givairo Read, the rising star from Feyenoord, has made it clear that his Premier League dream involves only one club—Liverpool. The 18-year-old right-back dismissed interest in Manchester United and Manchester City, instead expressing his admiration for Arne Slot’s side.
Liverpool’s continued rise attracts top talents
Liverpool have grown into a dominant force in world football over the past decade. Under Jürgen Klopp, they secured Premier League and Champions League titles, setting new standards. Now, with Arne Slot at the helm, the club is still on course for success.
Since replacing Klopp in May 2024, Slot has led Liverpool to the Carabao Cup final while maintaining a strong Premier League lead. Despite minimal transfer activity, the team continues to perform at the highest level, with Federico Chiesa being the only major signing under Slot, though his impact has been limited due to fitness struggles.
A right-back solution from Feyenoord?
While Liverpool enjoy a strong campaign, questions remain about their right-back position. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation is uncertain, and Real Madrid have reportedly shown interest in luring him to Spain. Should he leave, Liverpool will need a long-term replacement, and Givairo Read could be a perfect fit.
Read has impressed at Feyenoord, making 13 Eredivisie appearances and featuring in the Champions League against AC Milan. His ability to operate on both defensive flanks adds further appeal. However, what stands out most is his clear desire to play for Liverpool.
Asked to choose between Manchester United and Manchester City, Read’s response was definitive:
"Liverpool, for sure! Nothing else, no one else."
Arne Slot’s presence could be key
The appointment of Arne Slot could give Liverpool an advantage if they decide to move for Read. Slot is well aware of the defender’s qualities, having monitored his development at Feyenoord. With Liverpool’s history of investing in young talent, Read could be a smart acquisition.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool’s recruitment plans remain uncertain, but if they target Read, they won’t have to convince him to make the move.
