Flamengo's Gonzalo Plata is reportedly in talks with Premier League clubs for a 2025 transfer after the Super Club World Cup. Could the Ecuadorian star return to Europe?
Following Flamengo’s Copa do Brasil victory and with no real chance of securing the Brasileirão title, attention has shifted to potential roster changes. While Gabigol is confirmed to leave and Carlinhos has already been given an early vacation, another major name is reportedly attracting interest from Europe: Gonzalo Plata.
Could Gonzalo Plata Move to the Premier League in 2025?
According to reports shared by Flamengo insider Fabrício Lopes, Gonzalo Plata, the young Ecuadorian forward, is being targeted by clubs in the Premier League. The move could materialize after Flamengo competes in the Super Club World Cup next year.
Lopes revealed that Plata’s agents have acknowledged talks with Premier League clubs, hinting that the player might return to Europe by July 2025. At just 23 years old, Plata would see this as an opportunity to rekindle his European career and compete at the highest level of world football.
"English clubs are beginning to show serious interest in Plata," Lopes stated.
"These European teams often work with lists and sometimes leak them to gauge fan reactions. Plata's staff told the Ecuadorian media that talks with Premier League clubs are ongoing and that they expect him to move back to Europe mid-next year, potentially to a major club," Lopes added.
