Morocco’s win over Cameroon at AFCON means Bryan Mbeumo is returning to Manchester United, while Noussair Mazraoui and Amad Diallo remain in the tournament. United welcome back a key attacker ahead of crucial matches.
Manchester United received some positive news from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last night.
Morocco booked their place in the semi-finals by beating Cameroon 2-0, with goals from Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari. For Cameroon, the tournament is over, and their players are now heading back to their clubs.
For Manchester United, this means one important thing: Bryan Mbeumo is on his way back to Old Trafford.
The winger, who is also a teammate of Benjamin Šeško at United, has been noticeably missed in recent matches, and his return gives the squad an important attacking option ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
At the same time, Noussair Mazraoui will not return yet, as he remains with Morocco and will now play in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Senegal are also already among the last four, while the remaining two semi-finalists will be decided today.
First, Algeria face Nigeria, and later in the evening Egypt take on Ivory Coast. After those two matches, the list of all four teams still fighting for the trophy will be complete.
From a United perspective, there is another name to watch: Amad Diallo, who is still in the tournament with Ivory Coast.
Mbeumo will not yet be available for tomorrow’s FA Cup match against Brighton, but his return is expected to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming Manchester derby next week.
With a busy schedule and key players slowly coming back, United finally have a bit of good news after a demanding period.
