This weekend, one of the most anticipated matches will take place in Germany, where the reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen will clash with the most successful club of all time, Bayern Munich.

This will be the first meeting of the new season between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. Bayer are the reigning champions, having remained unbeaten under coach Xabi Alonso last season, and they currently trail only their upcoming opponents in the table.

The Bavarians have been in sensational form this season. Under new manager Vincent Kompany, they have won all four Bundesliga matches so far, scoring a total of 16 goals. Despite this, Leverkusen aren’t afraid of the challenge and aim to trouble Bayern once again.

"We want to hold onto the champion’s title for as long as possible! We have internal goals, but publicly, we take it game by game, and that brought us great results last season. We have a series of three or four tough matches, and the next one is against Bayern, who we also want to 'trouble' this season," said Granit Xhaka in an interview with Sky Sport Germany.

"It will be a Champions League-level match; that’s what our coach always tells us. We know how strong Bayern are, we’ve analyzed their games, they have a very solid defense, and we’re not expecting an easy task. But we’re well-prepared for the challenge," added Xhaka.

Bayern leads the Bundesliga standings with a three-point advantage over Bayer Leverkusen. The team from Leverkusen will be looking to set a new benchmark and once again defeat the Bavarian giants this season.
