Grealish must ‘snap back into football mode’ or risk fading at Man City

Jack Grealish has been urged to refocus on his career amid concerns that his form and fitness issues could see him lose his place at Manchester City.

Former England international Teddy Sheringham has warned that the midfielder must snap “back into football mode” before it’s too late.

Grealish has struggled for game time this season, making just 14 starts across all competitions, including only six in the Premier League. This marks a significant drop in involvement compared to last season, when he played a key role in City’s historic treble-winning campaign.

City boss Pep Guardiola recently addressed Grealish’s struggles, stating that his “problems” have limited his ability to play regularly. The England international has suffered multiple injuries, further complicating his season. His recent visit to a pub in east Manchester on a sanctioned day off also sparked discussions about his commitment, especially after Guardiola suggested in January that City loanee Savinho was in ‘better shape’ than Grealish.

Sheringham believes Grealish risks losing control of his career if he doesn’t regain his focus.

“I used to work hard, play hard in my day, but you still need to know when to play hard. There have always been players over the years who worked OK and played hard, and their football abilities fell off a cliff. Jack’s a little bit in that mold at the moment,” Sheringham told Prime Casino.

“They won the treble, and he celebrated, and it doesn’t seem like he’s got back into his football mode yet. He needs to, otherwise his career might slip away. He’s had a couple of injuries, I know, but it’s amazing how easy it is for a football career to slip away.”

City face a crucial run of fixtures, starting with a Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, followed by a home game against Brighton before an FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth after the March international break.
