Antoine Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid for MLS side Orlando City, ending a historic era without winning La Liga or the Champions League with the club.
Antoine Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season and continue his career in MLS with Orlando City.
The French forward departs as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, but also with the painful feeling that the biggest trophies always escaped him in Madrid.
Despite becoming a true icon at Atletico, Griezmann never managed to win either La Liga, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey with the club.
The irony is difficult to ignore. Atletico Madrid won the Spanish league title in 2021 during the same period when Griezmann was playing for Barcelona.
Even without those major titles, his legacy remains enormous.
Griezmann played more than 500 matches for the club, placing him among the most important figures in Atletico’s modern history.
Only Koke, Adelardo Rodriguez and Jan Oblak have made more appearances for the Madrid side.
His attacking numbers are even more impressive.
With 212 goals, Griezmann leaves as Atletico Madrid’s all-time top scorer. He also contributed 94 assists, confirming his status as one of the most productive players the club has ever had.
Although the biggest prizes stayed out of reach, his trophy cabinet is far from empty.
During his time in Madrid, Griezmann helped Atletico win the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup.
He now leaves for a new chapter in the United States, closing an emotional story that brought unforgettable moments, records and loyalty, but also the feeling that something even greater could have happened.
