Pep Guardiola reserved special praise for Rayan Cherki after Manchester City secured a dominant 3-0 win over Chelsea.
The French midfielder delivered another standout performance at Stamford Bridge, providing two assists and taking his tally beyond ten assists in his debut Premier League season.
That achievement places him in rare company. Cherki became the first player since Dimitri Payet to reach double-digit assists in his first season in England.
"The numbers are incredible, but the quality he is showing in his first season is something unique," Guardiola said after the match.
The Manchester City manager stressed where Cherki makes the biggest difference, closer to the goal.
"When he plays near Erling Haaland and the wingers, he uses the talent he has. If he keeps that mentality, he will become exceptional," Guardiola explained.
Despite the praise, Guardiola pointed out clear areas for growth. He wants more consistency across the full match.
"He has to maintain the same level for 95 minutes. His work ethic is strong, even if he does not have the same pressing intensity as others," he added.
Guardiola also highlighted Cherki’s vision, which sets him apart.
" For the second goal, I told him to pick the right pass. He found a solution I did not even see," he said.
Comparisons with elite playmakers are already starting, but Guardiola kept the focus on individuality.
"Every player has different qualities. Cherki has something special," he concluded.
With performances like this, Rayan Cherki is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting creators in the Premier League.
