Atlético Madrid are aiming to sign a marquee striker this summer, with Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres leading a shortlist that also includes Lautaro, Vlahović and Jonathan David.
Atlético Madrid are gearing up for a major striker signing in the summer transfer window, as the club begins preparing for life after Antoine Griezmann, who is expected to depart at the end of next season.
Last summer’s headline deal, Julián Álvarez, turned out to be the most expensive move of the window, and Atlético are now planning a similar high-profile signing. According to Portuguese outlet Record, their primary target is Viktor Gyökeres, the Swedish forward who had an outstanding season with Sporting Lisbon.
Gyökeres’ future is also indirectly linked to Benjamin Šeško, who has reportedly become Arsenal’s priority signing. That development may give Atlético a clear path to land Gyökeres, as Chelsea appear focused on Liam Delap, and Manchester United currently lack the pull to attract top-tier strikers.
Atlético have reportedly shortlisted multiple elite forwards, including Lautaro Martínez, Jonathan David, and Dušan Vlahović, but Gyökeres is now seen as the frontrunner. The 26-year-old scored over 40 goals for Sporting this season and has attracted widespread interest across Europe.
With Griezmann nearing the twilight of his Atlético career, the club is determined to bring in a marquee name who can lead the line for years to come. Their intent is clear: replace their departing icon with a forward capable of matching his influence and consistency.
