Hajduk Split is in talks to sign Ukrainian striker Nazariy Rusin on loan from Sunderland after the failed Jan Mlakar deal.

Hajduk Split is actively searching for a striker after the unexpected collapse of the Jan Mlakar transfer, and it appears they have found an alternative in Nazariy Rusin, currently with Sunderland.

According to reports from Ukrainian journalist Ihor Burbas, Rusin is in advanced negotiations with the Croatian club and is expected to join on loan. The 25-year-old forward has struggled to adapt in England and recently turned down a loan move to Aberdeen, favoring a switch to Split instead.

Rusin out of favor at Sunderland
Since joining the Championship side in the summer of 2023, Rusin has found himself on the fringes, making just 10 appearances this season without scoring. Overall, he has featured in 32 matches for Sunderland, finding the net only twice.

Rusin began his career at Lviv before moving to Dynamo Kyiv as a youngster. He later had loan spells at Zorya Luhansk, Legia Warsaw, Dnipro, and Chornomorets, before securing a permanent transfer to Zorya in 2022 for €250,000. During his stint in Ukraine, he impressed with 21 goals and 10 assists in nearly 50 matches, earning him a move to England.

However, his time in Sunderland has been underwhelming, and he now looks to reignite his career under the sunny skies of Split, hoping to rediscover the form that once made him a sought-after striker.
