Hajduk Split will receive a new stadium, as plans for a complete reconstruction of Poljud have been scrapped in favor of a new venue in Brodarica.
Plans for a complete reconstruction of Poljud Stadium have been abandoned, and instead, Hajduk Split will soon get a new home. The new stadium will be built in Brodarica, on the site of the current Park mladeži, according to Ivica Puljak, the mayor of Split.
The original plan for Poljud, which included financial support from the Croatian government and the City of Split, has been reconsidered. Instead of investing in the large-scale renovation of the iconic stadium, the focus will shift to constructing a smaller, more modern venue near Poljud. Despite never having won the national championship at Poljud, the hope is that Hajduk’s fortunes may change with the move to a new ground.
"This is a significant expense, and at the moment, it's unnecessary to go in that direction. It's better for Hajduk to have a new stadium in Brodarica, while we maintain Poljud for other sports, such as athletics. The funds would be better allocated toward Hajduk's training camp," Puljak explained in an interview with Dnevnik Nove TV.
Hajduk, currently in a strong position in the league standings, could end their long title drought this season, and a move to a new stadium might signal a fresh start for the club.
