Barcelona coach Hansi Flick dedicated the La Liga title to his late father after leading his team to victory against Real Madrid in El Clásico.
Hansi Flick experienced one of the most emotional days of his life after leading Barcelona to the La Liga title only hours after learning about the death of his father.
The German coach stood in front of supporters and journalists after the victory over Real Madrid in El Clasico and delivered deeply emotional words.
Barcelona defeated their biggest rivals at the Camp Nou and officially secured the Spanish championship.
But for Flick, football was not the most important thing on his mind.
After the final whistle, the Barcelona coach revealed that his mother had informed him earlier in the day that his father had passed away.
"This morning my mother called me and told me that my father had died," Flick said.
"I was thinking whether to keep it a secret or talk to my team. They are like family to me, so I decided to tell the players what happened."
The German strategist admitted the reaction from the dressing room touched him deeply.
"What they did was incredible. I will never forget that moment."
Despite the difficult circumstances, Flick still led Barcelona during one of the biggest matches of the season and celebrated another major trophy with the Catalan giants.
After the match, emotions completely took over.
"I will never forget that day. It was a difficult day for me. My father died. But my team here is fantastic."
"I really love them, they are like a family. They gave their all today, and I am very proud of the fans, too."
Flick also praised the atmosphere inside the stadium during the title-winning evening.
"The atmosphere in this stadium and winning El Clásico against Real Madrid to win La Liga is something incredible."
The Barcelona coach also refused to underestimate the strength of their biggest rival.
"Everyone said we could win, but Real Madrid is a fantastic team. But we played really well."
He finished his emotional speech with gratitude and a call for celebration.
"Thank you to everyone for everything. I think now is the time to celebrate."
For Barcelona supporters, the night became unforgettable because of the title triumph.
For Hansi Flick, however, it will forever remain a day filled with both enormous joy and deep personal pain.
