Harry Kane equaled a Champions League knockout record previously achieved only by Cristiano Ronaldo despite Bayern Munich’s semi-final elimination against PSG.
Harry Kane reached another remarkable milestone in the Champions League despite Bayern Munich’s painful elimination against PSG.
The England captain scored a dramatic late equalizer in stoppage time during Bayern’s 1-1 draw against the French champions in the second leg of the semi-final.
However, the goal was not enough to save the German side, who were eliminated after losing the spectacular first leg in Paris 5-4.
Even so, Kane entered the history books with his latest strike.
The 32-year-old became only the second player ever to score in six consecutive Champions League knockout matches.
The only other player to achieve the feat was Cristiano Ronaldo, who managed the same run for Real Madrid between 2012 and 2013.
Kane’s scoring streak included:
Goals in both round of 16 matches against Atalanta
Goals in both quarter-final matches against Real Madrid
Goals in both semi-final matches against PSG
The Bayern striker scored his latest goal in the 90+4th minute, briefly giving the home crowd hope before the final whistle confirmed PSG’s qualification.
Because of Bayern’s elimination, Kane will miss the opportunity to break the record outright in the final against Arsenal on May 30 in Budapest.
The English striker is still chasing additional trophies in Germany.
After winning the Bundesliga title last season, Bayern remain in contention for a domestic double and will face VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final.
Kane has enjoyed another extraordinary individual season in Munich.
Across all competitions, he has produced 55 goals and seven assists in 48 appearances.
With only two Bundesliga rounds remaining, he is also on course to finish as the league’s top scorer once again.
In the Champions League scoring chart, only Kylian Mbappe has scored more goals this season.
