Hull City completed an extraordinary €175m summer rebuild with the signing of Greece wonderkid Christos Mouzakitis, taking their spending close to Barcelona's total.

Hull City have officially completed the signing of highly rated Greece international
Christos Mouzakitis from Olympiacos, making the 19-year-old midfielder the 18th and final addition of an extraordinary summer transfer window.
Mouzakitis has signed a five-year contract running until the summer of 2031. Hull have not disclosed the transfer fee, but reports in England put the deal at approximately €15 million (£12.8m). He will also be reunited with fellow Greece international Konstantinos Tzolakis, another player signed from Olympiacos this summer.
Mouzakitis arrives with Champions League experience
Despite being only 19, Mouzakitis already has substantial senior experience. He joined the Olympiacos academy at the age of seven and went on to make 78 first-team appearances, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
His breakthrough season came in 2024/25, when he was named the Super League Greece Young Player of the Season and selected in the league's Team of the Season. Mouzakitis made 36 appearances as Olympiacos completed a domestic league and cup double before later adding the Greek Super Cup.
He continued his rapid development last season, playing 39 times and featuring in all 10 of Olympiacos' Champions League matches. A season earlier, he had also made nine appearances in the Europa League.
His progress at international level has been equally impressive. Mouzakitis already has 11 senior caps for Greece, having made his debut in a 2-0 Nations League victory over Finland in November 2024. He subsequently featured in 2026 World Cup qualifying and Greece's June friendlies.
The teenager had attracted interest elsewhere in Europe and was previously regarded as a significant transfer target for Roma, making Hull's successful move one of the more eye-catching pieces of their summer recruitment.
Hull spend €175m after slow start to the window

The newly promoted Premier League club initially moved cautiously in the market, leading to growing criticism from supporters concerned that the squad would not be strong enough for the top flight. Owner Acun Ilicali repeatedly insisted that reinforcements were coming, and Hull eventually responded with an extraordinary late burst of activity.
The Tigers spent more than €50m on deadline day alone, taking their overall investment to approximately €175m on 18 new players.
For context, that is only around €10m less than Barcelona spent on new signings this summer.
Hull's squad is now valued at approximately €253m, and their recruitment strategy has largely focused on younger players with significant development and resale potential rather than established veterans.
Hull bet heavily on youth and potential
The most expensive arrival was defender Nobel Mendy, signed from Rayo Vallecano for approximately €23.4m, but Hull have spread their investment across a large group of emerging talents.
Konstantinos Tzolakis, Ilyas Ansah, Mohamed Ali Cho, Lucas Herrington, Robinio Vaz and Mouzakitis are among the players recruited with a view to both immediate Premier League survival and longer-term development.
Mouzakitis could ultimately prove one of the most significant of them all. A 19-year-old midfielder with 78 Olympiacos appearances, 11 Greece caps and a full Champions League campaign already behind him represents an unusually accomplished prospect for his age.
Hull began the summer facing questions over whether they were prepared for Premier League football. They finish it having invested €175m, signed 18 players and spent almost as much as Barcelona.
The challenge for Ilicali and Hull now changes completely: after investing at that level, attention will turn from recruitment to whether this young and dramatically rebuilt squad can deliver in the Premier League.
