Former Chelsea youth player Lamisha Musonda has revealed he is battling a rare disease and that his condition is critical, admitting he may only have days left and thanking those who stood by him during his life.
Lamisha Musonda, a former Chelsea youth player and member of the well-known Musonda football family, has shared a devastating update about his health, revealing that he is battling a rare disease and that his condition is now critical.
The 33-year-old former midfielder published an emotional message in which he admitted that every day could be his last.
“I only have a few days left and I think a lot about the people who stood by me,” Musonda wrote.
“Life is hard, but the view is beautiful. There are ups and downs and no one understands the pain we carry inside us,” he added.
Musonda explained that the last two years have been incredibly difficult and that his fight for life is no longer going well.
“The last two years have been very difficult for me. It is with great sadness that I announce that my fight for life is not going well and that is why I have not been very public. I have to face the facts – my health is critical. I am fighting for every day,” he wrote.
“Thank you for the prayers and kind words. I believe they help,” he added.
Perhaps the most painful part for him is the feeling that he may not have enough time to say goodbye to everyone who meant so much to him.
“We are fighting. I will not give up. Until my last breath. I have had a wonderful life and there are many people I would like to thank personally again. The fact that I probably will not have enough time hurts me a lot. I feel that I still have a lot to contribute as a person,” Musonda wrote.
His message has triggered an emotional response across the football world. Among those who publicly sent their support were Romelu Lukaku and former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
The Musonda family and Chelsea connection
The Musonda brothers were once considered one of the most talented football families to come through the Belgian and Chelsea youth systems.
Lamisha Musonda retired from football in 2020. His younger brother Charly Musonda Jr. ended his career last year after spells at Chelsea, Vitesse, Celtic, Real Betis, Levante and Anderlecht. He last played in Cyprus.
The brothers joined Chelsea’s academy in 2012 from Anderlecht and were once seen as some of the brightest prospects in European football.
The third brother, Tika Musonda, also passed through Chelsea but retired early and now works as a scout for Liverpool.
Today, football is no longer the main story. What remains is a deeply human and tragic fight, and a message from a man who is facing the hardest match of his life with courage and dignity.
