Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly demanded a quick decision from Luka Modric over his expiring contract after Milan’s shock loss to Parma left them 10 points behind Inter.
AC Milan expected a routine win against Parma at San Siro. Instead, a 1-0 defeat has triggered tension inside the club and fresh questions about Luka Modric’s future.
The loss in the 26th round of Serie A leaves Milan 10 points behind Inter, who continued their strong run with a victory over Lecce. The Scudetto race now looks close to slipping away from the Rossoneri.
Italian media focus less on tactics and more on what happened after the final whistle. Reports claim Zlatan Ibrahimovic held direct talks with Modric and demanded clarity over his contract situation.
Modric, 40, joined Milan after leaving Real Madrid and has impressed throughout the season. He has made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists. Against Parma, though, he struggled to influence the match.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, club leaders want a decision soon. Modric’s contract expires this summer. Milan has the option to extend it for another year, but they prefer the player’s commitment rather than activating it without his approval.
Modric reportedly planned to wait until after the upcoming World Cup before deciding his next step. Milan do not want to wait that long. The club is preparing for next season and needs certainty in midfield planning.
Ibrahimovic, now influential in the club’s hierarchy, does not want to force Modric to stay. At the same time, he expects transparency. Milan needs to know whether they should build around the Croatian for another year or search for a replacement.
There is also interest from Dinamo Zagreb, who would welcome Modric back to Maksimir. That option increases pressure on Milan to act quickly.
The defeat to Parma exposed more than defensive weaknesses. It highlighted uncertainty about leadership and long-term planning. As Inter pull away at the top, Milan must solve internal issues fast.
The coming weeks will determine whether Modric extends his stay at San Siro or closes another chapter in his decorated career. For Ibrahimovic and Milan, patience appears to be running out.
