Kevin De Bruyne criticised Antonio Conte’s football philosophy after the coach left Napoli, admitting he is happy to see the Italian move on.
Antonio Conte left his coaching position at Napoli a few days ago.
He leaves after two seasons. In the first, he delivered another Serie A title, and in the second Napoli finished behind only Inter. Strong results, but Conte rarely stays long at one club, so his departure is not surprising.
Some people are even happy about it.
Just ask Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne.
After his latest statement, it almost sounds like the midfielder had been waiting for Conte’s departure.
"Conte? I'm glad he left Napoli. It never said he had to stay. We played a very defensive style of football. If you play with a 5-4-1 formation and you only score one goal per game, then it's clear that it's not good and I have a very different idea of football."
De Bruyne joined Napoli last summer after ending his hugely successful spell at Manchester City.
In the current season, he made 21 appearances for the Italian side, played 1,360 minutes, scored five goals and added four assists.
He will celebrate his 35th birthday later this month, while his contract with Napoli runs until the end of next season.
Massimiliano Allegri has also been linked with Napoli in recent days.
Something suggests De Bruyne would not be overly satisfied with that appointment either.
