FairSquare has filed an ethics complaint against FIFA president Gianni Infantino over alleged political bias and inappropriate behaviour during the 2026 World Cup draw.
Gianni Infantino is under scrutiny after the human-rights organisation FairSquare submitted a formal complaint to FIFA’s Ethics Committee, accusing the president of inappropriate and politically charged behaviour during the 2026 World Cup draw.
FairSquare claims that Infantino openly displayed enthusiasm for Donald Trump, giving the ceremony an unwanted political tone despite FIFA’s strict rules on neutrality. The most contentious moment was Infantino’s public praise of Trump and the fact that FIFA, for the first time ever, created a peace award whose inaugural recipient was the former US president.
According to the eight-page complaint, FIFA has consistently stressed political and religious neutrality, especially in its dealings with governments and political figures. FairSquare argues that Infantino’s conduct directly contradicts those principles.
The organisation also points to earlier behaviour: this year, Infantino publicly campaigned on social media for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for what he described as the president’s role in easing tensions in the Middle East. When Trump was not selected, FIFA went on to introduce its own peace award shortly afterward — and immediately awarded it to him.
FairSquare argues that linking Infantino’s political advocacy with FIFA’s creation of the award is “clear evidence of political influence” and calls on the Ethics Committee to intervene.
FIFA has not yet issued an official response to the complaint.
