Samir Handanović, a name synonymous with Inter Milan and heralded as a living legend, was honored with a special commemorative plaque before yesterday's match.
The plaque, presented by club icon and now senior Inter official, Javier Zanetti, marks Handanović's impressive tally of 455 appearances for the club.
As Inter Milan gears up to clinch the Italian Serie A title this season, the club took a moment to celebrate their long-time goalkeeper and modern-day legend, Samir Handanović. The special ceremony featured another legend of the club, Javier Zanetti, who handed over a plaque inscribed with the number 455, representing the total number of matches Handanović played in an Inter jersey.
"Thank you to Inter for all the years I have spent here. I am moved. San Siro is beautiful, the most beautiful stadium in the world, and here are also the best fans," Handanović remarked, emphasizing that joining Inter was a dream come true.
Handanović joined Inter in 2012 from Udinese, where he was already considered a highly promising goalkeeper. In Milan, he elevated his game even further, eventually being named the best goalkeeper in Serie A—a title reflecting his outstanding performances in the 566 league matches he played throughout his career in Italy. Handanović retired in May last year and transitioned into a scouting role at Inter, with aspirations of becoming a coach in the future.
