Inter and Hajduk are deep in negotiations over the transfer of defender Branimir Mlačić, with a deal expected soon and key focus placed on future-sale percentages.
Inter are moving closer to completing the signing of Branimir Mlačić, with new information from Croatia suggesting that talks between the clubs are advancing well. The young Hajduk defender has been on the radar of the Italian giants for months, and sources confirm that both sides expect to reach an agreement soon.
The total transfer fee remains undefined. Hajduk have not set a firm minimum asking price, partly because the structure of the player’s existing contract allows the fixed fee to change depending on certain clauses. That flexibility is not viewed negatively in Split — in fact, it aligns with the club’s current strategy.
Hajduk’s priority is not maximising a one-off fee but securing a substantial percentage of a future sale, especially after the experience with Luka Vušković. The teenage defender is thriving at HSV this season and could eventually become one of the most expensive Croatian centre-backs in history, just behind Joško Gvardiol. Hajduk want to ensure they benefit far more significantly from Mlačić’s long-term career development.
Negotiations with Inter therefore centre on:
– a strong sell-on clause,
– easily achievable performance bonuses,
– the timing of the first instalment, and
– the payment structure for the rest of the fixed amount.
Nothing is finalised yet, but both clubs are reportedly aligned and optimistic. A Hajduk delegation was in Milan last week and is expected to return in the coming days for another round of discussions.
If all goes smoothly, Mlačić could soon follow a long line of Croatian defenders who have made the leap to Serie A — and Inter seem determined to secure him before competition intensifies.
