Inter are targeting Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin as a potential replacement for Yann Sommer, who could return to Basel after his contract expires.
Inter are preparing for another change between the posts as veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer approaches the end of his contract with the club.
According to reports in the Italian media, the Swiss international does not plan to extend his deal and intends to return home to finish his career with Basel.
The club is currently led by former Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner, while another national team icon, Xherdan Shaqiri, also plays an important role in the squad.
Inter already went through one major transition in goal after the retirement of long-time captain Samir Handanovic. Now the Italian giants are once again searching for a new long-term solution.
The main candidate on the club’s shortlist is Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper delivered several impressive performances when called upon, but he remains second choice behind Thibaut Courtois at the Spanish club.
Lunin joined Real Madrid in 2018 and gained experience through loan spells at Leganes, Valladolid and Real Oviedo. Since 2020, he has been part of Madrid’s senior squad, waiting for regular playing time.
Inter see the 26-year-old as a potential long-term successor to Sommer as they plan for the next phase of their squad.
