Inter have made their position crystal clear. Aleksandar Stanković is not for sale.

The Serie A champions have rejected a €40 million offer from Brentford, deciding that the talented Serbian midfielder remains a key part of the club's long-term plans.

Chivu wants him to stay

Head coach Cristian Chivu reportedly sees the 20-year-old as one of the cornerstones of Inter's future midfield.

Stanković recently returned to the club after an outstanding loan spell at Club Brugge, where he helped win the Belgian title and was voted the league's Best Young Player.

Since returning to Milan, he has also inherited the iconic shirt number once worn by his father, Dejan "Deki" Stanković, underlining the club's belief in his future.

Premier League move put on hold

Brentford attempted to lure the Serbian international to England with an offer worth €40 million.

However, Inter's board immediately rejected the proposal, while the player and his family also believe remaining at San Siro is the best decision for his development.

The Premier League may still be part of Stanković's future, but not this summer.

Heir to Çalhanoğlu?

Inter believe Stanković has the quality to become the long-term successor to Hakan Çalhanoğlu in midfield.

Last season, experienced players including Piotr Zieliński, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nicolò Barella carried much of the responsibility in central midfield.

This season, Stanković hopes to earn significantly more playing time and establish himself in Chivu's first-team plans.

Another exciting youngster, Luka Topalović, is also expected to compete for minutes in Inter's midfield during the new campaign.

Despite their confidence in Stanković, the Nerazzurri continue to be linked with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who remains one of the names reportedly under consideration.
