Simone Inzaghi praises Lautaro Martinez after ending his two-month goal drought, emphasizing his importance to Inter despite recent criticism.
Inter Milan claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Cagliari in the 18th round of Serie A, temporarily moving to the top of the league table. Goals from Alessandro Bastoni (53’), Lautaro Martinez (71’), and a penalty by Hakan Çalhanoğlu (78’) secured the win. Lautaro’s goal marked the end of a two-month scoring drought, silencing recent criticism of the Argentine striker.
After the match, Simone Inzaghi, Inter’s head coach, spoke to DAZN and not only praised his team’s performance but also strongly defended Lautaro, who had been under pressure for missing key chances in recent weeks.
"Naturally, the situation was weighing on him, but everyone at the club kept telling him to relax," Inzaghi said. "Even though he wasn’t scoring, he contributed so much to the team with his work in attack. Lautaro Martinez will never be a problem for Inter, only a solution."
Martinez joined Inter in 2018 and has since been a pivotal player for the club. In 303 appearances, he has scored 135 goals and provided 47 assists, establishing himself as one of the club’s key figures. Despite his recent struggles, Lautaro’s goal against Cagliari demonstrated his resilience and ability to deliver when it matters most.
Inzaghi’s words reflect the trust and belief the club has in their striker, ensuring Lautaro remains an integral part of Inter's title defense as the season progresses.
