Petar Sučić is facing his first major wave of criticism in Italy after being withdrawn at half-time during Inter’s 2–0 win over Pisa in Serie A.
The 22-year-old Croatian midfielder, signed this summer from Dinamo Zagreb for €14.6 million, has appeared in 21 matches, scoring once and adding three assists. His strong displays in October — notably against Fiorentina and Verona — sparked optimism, but his form has clearly dipped in recent weeks.
Italian newspapers were blunt in their assessments. Gazzetta dello Sport ran the headline “He’s no longer a genius,” shifting from earlier praise to pointed disappointment. Sučić received a rating of 5.5, while SportMediaset gave him 5, and Goal likewise 5.5.
Inter coach Cristian Chivu added to the speculation around Sučić’s current status. After the match, he singled out Piotr Zieliński as the key figure in midfield but made no mention of Sučić, reinforcing the sense that the young Croatian has slipped down the internal hierarchy — at least for now.
Despite the criticism, Sučić remains a long-term project for both Inter and the Croatian national team. To reclaim his starting spot in Inter’s competitive midfield, he will need to restore consistency and regain Chivu’s trust in the coming weeks.
