Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto has received an Italian passport and could soon join Italy, offering a new attacking option amid a shortage of forwards.
Italy may have found a new solution to their attacking problems, and it comes from Brazil.
Yuri Alberto, currently playing for Corinthians, has received an Italian passport, which opens the door for him to represent the Italian national team.
The 25-year-old striker had previously focused on building a club career in Europe. His only experience on the continent came with a move to Zenit, where he made an immediate impact.
In just 15 matches, he contributed 10 goals and assists, but his time in Russia ended early due to the geopolitical situation following the conflict in Ukraine.
After leaving Zenit, he returned to Brazil and joined Corinthians, having previously played for Internacional and Santos.
Now, a new chapter is opening, at international level.
Although he has already made one appearance for Brazil, his future now appears to lie with Italy, a team currently searching for reliable options in attack.
Yuri Alberto could become a similar case to Mateo Retegui, who was discovered by Italy in Argentina and quickly made an impact after his debut in 2023.
Retegui later moved to Saudi Arabia and is now being linked with a return to Europe, including interest from AC Milan.
With limited options up front, Italy are once again looking abroad for solutions, and Yuri Alberto fits that profile.
If he adapts quickly, he could soon attract renewed attention from European clubs, especially with performances in the Italian shirt.
The next opportunity may come soon.
Italy are scheduled to play Greece and Luxembourg during the June international break, where Yuri Alberto could receive his first call-up.
For a team in need of fresh attacking options, this could be an important addition.
