Pep Guardiola confuses everyone with cryptic post-match remarks about Rico Lewis' red card in Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.
Pep Guardiola has sparked confusion and headlines across England following a bizarre post-match interview after Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The City manager appeared deeply frustrated over the controversial red card shown to Rico Lewis, leading to a baffling exchange with a reporter that left fans and pundits scratching their heads.
City twice came from behind thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Rico Lewis, but their chances of completing a comeback were derailed in the 84th minute, when Lewis received a second yellow card and was sent off. The decision left City vulnerable, and they had to hold on to secure a point.
Guardiola was visibly angry on the touchline and protested vehemently against the referee’s decision. His frustration carried over into the post-match press conference, where his responses to questions about the red card were cryptic, to say the least.
When asked about Lewis' red card, Guardiola repeatedly gave the same puzzling answer:
"It’s because it’s Rico."
The remark left the journalist interviewing him visibly confused:
"Sorry, I didn’t understand," the reporter replied, prompting Guardiola to simply repeat his statement:
"It’s because it’s Rico."
The reporter pressed further, asking if Guardiola believed the red card was issued unfairly because of who Rico Lewis is. Guardiola dodged the question by responding with another vague comment:
"That’s Rico Lewis."
Even when asked directly if he believed the tackle warranted a yellow card, Guardiola stuck to his initial line:
"It’s because it’s Rico."
The bizarre exchange left the conversation unresolved, and Guardiola ended the discussion without clarifying his stance.
