Southampton is on course for one of the worst seasons in Premier League history, drawing comparisons to Derby County’s infamous 2007/08 campaign.
The Saints sit on just nine points after 27 rounds, the same total Derby had at this stage before finishing with a record-low 11 points.
Despite hiring Croatian coach Ivan Jurić last December, results have not improved. Under his management, Southampton has averaged only 0.5 points per game, winning just two of 12 matches while suffering ten defeats. Their goal difference in this period stands at a disastrous -19.
Their struggles were further highlighted by back-to-back 4-0 losses, adding to the pressure on Jurić. The next challenge will be even tougher, as they face Liverpool at Anfield, a venue where struggling teams rarely find relief.
With survival looking increasingly impossible, the question remains whether Jurić will remain in charge until the end of the season or if Southampton will opt for yet another managerial change in a desperate bid to avoid the fate of Derby County.
