Jamal Musiala suffered a serious leg injury against PSG. Reports from Germany suggest he may miss up to a year and could even miss the 2026 World Cup.
Bayern Munich and Germany have been dealt a huge blow, with Jamal Musiala sustaining a severe leg injury during the Club World Cup quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder went down after a painful collision with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and footage clearly showed his foot hanging at an unnatural angle after the fall.
According to Bild, Musiala has likely suffered a fractured fibula in his left leg and also damage to multiple ligaments, making this one of the most serious injuries of his young career.
Early reports out of Germany offer two timelines: the most optimistic estimate suggests a return in 4–5 months, but less hopeful projections indicate that Musiala could be sidelined for 9 to 12 months—which would put his participation in the 2026 World Cup at serious risk.
Bayern have not yet issued an official update, but medical tests are ongoing and a statement is expected soon. The injury not only casts doubt over his international future in the near term, but will also hit Bayern hard, as Musiala is one of the most creative forces in their attack.
This is a devastating setback for a player who was seen as one of Germany’s brightest hopes heading into the World Cup in North America. Musiala, who has already earned 29 caps for Germany, was expected to be a central figure in Julian Nagelsmann’s plans for the 2026 tournament.
