Bayern Munich were given a frightening moment during their pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig when Jamal Musiala collapsed in the intense heat at the Allianz Arena.
The 23-year-old had scored Bayern's third goal only two minutes earlier, combining with Ismael Saibari to make it 3-1, but celebrations quickly turned into concern.
With temperatures reaching around 33° C, Musiala began to look dizzy and disoriented while waiting for play to restart.
Moments later, he became increasingly unstable on his feet.
Saibari spotted the danger and caught Musiala
Saibari immediately noticed that something was wrong with his teammate and rushed towards him.
As Musiala began to fall, Saibari managed to catch him before he completely collapsed to the ground. Joshua Kimmich also quickly arrived to help.
Medical staff immediately ran onto the pitch as worried supporters inside the Allianz Arena watched the scene unfold.
Musiala remained lying on the grass while Bayern players gathered around him and doctors assessed his condition.
There was finally a sense of relief when the medical team gave a thumbs-up signal.
Musiala was helped from the pitch in the 83rd minute, with Bayern supporters chanting his name as he made his way off.
Another worrying moment after Musiala's nightmare injury
The incident was particularly concerning given what Musiala experienced during the previous year.
The German international suffered a serious leg fracture during last year's preparations, an injury that kept him out of action for more than six months.
As a result, Musiala managed only 15 Bundesliga appearances last season.
Bayern supporters will therefore hope the latest incident proves to have been caused only by exhaustion and the difficult conditions, with the beginning of the new competitive season approaching.
Musiala scores before leaving the pitch
Before the worrying scenes, Bayern had done enough to secure the Telekom Cup.
Luis Díaz opened the scoring before Brighton loanee Brajan Gruda equalised for Leipzig in the 53rd minute.
Nathaniel Brown restored Bayern's advantage before Musiala completed the scoring after Saibari's assist.
The final result was 3-1, but Bayern's victory quickly became secondary as attention turned towards Musiala and his condition.
