Legendary Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Chelsea's brilliant winger Cole Palmer is currently the best player in the toughest league in the world.
Following his fantastic performance against Brighton, where Palmer became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half, the winger has impressed pundits and fans alike. Palmer was already in exceptional form last season, but it often went unnoticed due to Chelsea’s underwhelming performance, far from Champions League qualification.
Chelsea is showing promising signs this season, and Palmer has emerged as the club's standout player. According to Carragher, he is currently the best in the league.
"Last season, I was hesitant to call him the best player in the league, even though I felt he was. Chelsea’s poor season made me pick Phil Foden," said Carragher on Monday Night Football.
"However, now I feel Palmer is the best. If he continues like this, for me, he’ll be the best player in the league. Watching him today reminds me of Gareth Bale at Tottenham. He was the best player in the league for a few years, even though Tottenham was only fighting for Champions League spots at best."
Carragher also believes Palmer should play a central role in the England national team.
"Foden never really cemented his spot in the national team. Other players came in and took his place. He seemed like the perfect solution for the right wing, then Saka emerged. Then he was in line for the number 10 role, but Jude Bellingham took that. You think we’ll find him a place, and then Cole Palmer shows up. I love Foden, but Palmer has to play for England. In the last 15 months, there hasn’t been a better player in the Premier League for me," Carragher added.
