Jan Oblak is once again proving his status as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, leading the race for the Zamora Trophy as he plays a key role in Atletico Madrid’s title charge.

Jan Oblak, the Slovenian national team goalkeeper, is once again proving his world-class quality as he leads the race for the prestigious Zamora Trophy. The Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has been instrumental in his club’s strong La Liga campaign, keeping them firmly in the title fight.

Atletico Madrid has been exceptional this season, particularly in defense, and a large part of their solidity comes down to Oblak’s performances. After 25 league matches, he holds a significant lead in the Zamora rankings, which rewards the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-conceded-per-game average.

To qualify for the award, a goalkeeper must play at least 28 matches in a season. As things stand, Oblak is on course to meet that requirement, having conceded just 16 goals in his 25 appearances, averaging an impressive 0.64 goals per game. His closest challengers, David Soria (Getafe) and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), are trailing by a significant margin.

Current Zamora Trophy rankings:

1️⃣ Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) – 16 goals in 25 games (0.64 per game)
2️⃣ David Soria (Getafe) – 21 goals in 26 games (0.81 per game)
3️⃣ Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) – 21 goals in 23 games (0.91 per game)
4️⃣ Augusto Batalla (Rayo Vallecano) – 21 goals in 21 games (1.00 per game)
5️⃣ Álex Remiro (Real Sociedad) – 27 goals in 26 games (1.04 per game)
6️⃣ Dominik Greif (Mallorca) – 25 goals in 21 games (1.19 per game)
7️⃣ Orjan Nyland (Sevilla) – 24 goals in 19 games (1.26 per game)
8️⃣ Vicente Guaita (Celta Vigo) – 31 goals in 22 games (1.41 per game)
9️⃣ Sergio Herrera (Osasuna) – 37 goals in 26 games (1.42 per game)
🔟 Paulo Gazzaniga (Girona) – 37 goals in 26 games (1.42 per game)

Oblak is no stranger to winning the Zamora Trophy. He has already lifted the award five times—in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021—making him one of the most dominant goalkeepers in La Liga history. Last season, Unai Simón of Athletic Bilbao claimed the honor, but this year, the race is firmly in Oblak’s hands.

With just a few more matches to reach the 28-game requirement, the Slovenian shot-stopper is in prime position to secure his record-extending sixth Zamora Trophy. If he maintains his current form, he could once again cement his legacy as one of the greatest goalkeepers in La Liga history.
