Jan Oblak praises Alexander Sorloth after Atlético Madrid’s dramatic victory against Barcelona at Montjuïc, a win that propelled them to the top of La Liga.
Jan Oblak, Atlético Madrid’s goalkeeper, was full of praise for Alexander Sorloth after the Norwegian striker secured a last-minute winner against Barcelona at Montjuïc. The win not only ended Oblak’s personal drought against Barça but also saw Atlético Madrid rise to the top of La Liga.
Speaking to Movistar moments after the final whistle, Oblak acknowledged the difficulties of the match:
"Since I’ve been here, I had never won at Barcelona’s ground. Finally, we did it. It was a tough game, but we got the three points. We suffered a lot. We started badly, with fear no one can understand. We didn’t enter the game well, but we held on, we resisted, and we knew chances would come. After the 1-0, we endured, and in the last minute, Sorloth gave us the win once again," said the Slovenian.
Oblak emphasized the importance of having a player like Sorloth, whose ability to deliver in decisive moments is crucial for nights like this.
"It took Sorloth to win here. It’s not easy to come on and do what he does. He always does his job and scores the goals we need. He’s the striker we’ve been looking for," Oblak added.
"This match isn’t decisive, but it’s important"
Despite the significance of the victory, Oblak remained cautious about the long road ahead in La Liga:
"The league is very long. This game isn’t decisive. It’s just three points, and there’s still a lot to play for. It was important to win, but there are two very strong teams in this league, so we’ll take it one game at a time. A month and a half ago, we were far behind. Hopefully, we stay in this position and don’t drop off," he remarked.
