Chelsea youngster Jesse Derry speaks after a head injury on debut vs Nottingham Forest, thanking fans and medical staff for support.
Jesse Derry has reassured fans after a frightening head injury during his full Chelsea debut, sharing an emotional message following the club’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The 18-year-old winger started at Stamford Bridge on Bank Holiday Monday, his big moment turned into a worrying scene just before half-time.
Derry suffered a heavy clash of heads that left him unconscious on the pitch. Medical staff rushed in, and he left the field on a stretcher while receiving oxygen.
The incident caused deep concern inside the stadium, with his father Shaun Derry visibly shaken during the interval.
Less than 24 hours later, Derry broke his silence on Instagram, offering a positive update.
"A dream come true to start at Stamford Bridge for my Premier League debut."
"I'd like to thank all the Chelsea medical staff, everyone at St Mary's hospital, my teammates, and all the fans for their great support."
"I can't wait to be back playing in front of everyone very soon."
The post quickly drew support from across the football community. Young talents like Matheus Mane and Chris Rigg responded early, followed by teammates Josh Acheampong, Marc Cucurella, and Jorrel Hato.
Zach Abbott, who was involved in the collision, also sent a message: "Best wishes mate."
Abbott managed to leave the pitch on his own, and the incident led to a penalty that Cole Palmer failed to convert.
Before the injury, Derry stood out as one of Chelsea’s brightest players on the day.
He showed sharp control, quick direction changes, and direct attacking intent. His style brought comparisons to Jack Grealish during his time at Aston Villa, a player with close ties to Derry’s family.
Derry played a key role in an early chance, keeping the ball alive before linking with Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez, whose shot struck the post.
He also attempted an acrobatic finish and consistently looked to drive forward, linking well with teammates even deep in his own half.
This season, Derry has featured mainly for the Under-21s, making 29 appearances, scoring 12 goals and adding four assists. His only senior minutes before this match came in the FA Cup against Wrexham and Hull City.
Fans now wait for his return, hoping the promising winger gets another chance before the end of the season.
