John Stones will leave Manchester City at the end of the season after ten years, closing a trophy-filled chapter at the Etihad.
John Stones will bring his long chapter at Manchester City to an end this summer, with the club confirming that the England international will not extend his contract and will leave after ten years.
The 31-year-old defender is no longer a central part of Pep Guardiola’s plans and will look for a new challenge ahead of the next season. During his time at the club, Stones made 293 appearances in all competitions and played a key role in one of the most successful periods in City’s history.
The list of trophies reflects that impact.
Stones won the Premier League six times, lifted the League Cup five times, added two FA Cups, and was part of the team that secured the Champions League and the Club World Cup.
The story is not over yet.
Before his departure, Stones still has the chance to compete for three more trophies this season, with Manchester City fighting in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
He joined the club in 2016 from Everton for around €55 million, having started his career at Barnsley, and developed into one of the key defenders of his generation.
On the international stage, Stones has made 87 appearances for England, adding further experience to his profile as he prepares for the next step.
Interest is already building.
Clubs such as Juventus and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move, with the defender set to become available as a free agent.
Manchester City will next face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as Stones enters the final matches of his time at the club.
He arrived as a promising defender.
He leaves as one of the most decorated players of the Guardiola era.
