Real Madrid are edging closer to completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer after reportedly reaching an agreement on personal terms with Rodri.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Manchester City midfielder has already agreed the framework of a contract with the Spanish giants, leaving the two clubs to negotiate a transfer fee.
Several reports in Spain claim the Spain international is determined to move to the Santiago Bernabéu, with only an agreement between the clubs still standing in the way of the transfer.
One of the decisive factors behind Rodri's desire to join Madrid is reportedly new head coach José Mourinho. Spanish media claim the Portuguese manager personally contacted the midfielder and made it clear that he sees him as a cornerstone of his new project.
Real Madrid believe Rodri is the ideal player to restore balance, control and composure in midfield following the departures of club legends Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić.
The club has already strengthened its midfield this summer with the arrival of Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, while Rodri is viewed as the final piece needed to complete the rebuild.
The biggest obstacle remains the transfer fee. Manchester City are reportedly demanding around €60 million for one of the world's best midfielders, while Real Madrid hope to negotiate a lower price.
With just one year remaining on Rodri's current contract, the Spanish club believes City's negotiating position has weakened and hopes the Premier League champions will eventually agree to a compromise.
Real Madrid have already enjoyed a busy transfer window, bringing in Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva, while highly-rated youngster Yan Diomande is also expected to arrive.
If the deal is completed, Rodri would become another marquee signing in what is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious summers in Real Madrid's recent history.
