German media report that the former Manchester United manager was in contention for the Leipzig job, but Red Bull’s Jurgen Klopp shut down the proposal.
RB Leipzig is expected to part ways with head coach Marco Rose at the end of the season, regardless of how the campaign finishes. With the club still in contention for a German Cup triumph and a Champions League qualification spot, Leipzig’s management has already started evaluating potential replacements.
Among the candidates was Erik ten Hag, who has been unemployed since his departure from Manchester United. The Dutchman has experience in German football, having previously worked as a youth coach at Bayern Munich, making him a seemingly strong candidate for the role.
However, according to reports from Sky Germany, Jurgen Klopp, now serving as Red Bull’s director of football, has blocked the idea of appointing Ten Hag as Leipzig’s next manager.
Why did Klopp reject Ten Hag?
The exact reason behind Klopp’s decision remains unclear, but speculation suggests that it could be influenced by his past encounters with Ten Hag in the Premier League. The Dutchman famously suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat against Klopp’s Liverpool while managing Manchester United, which could have impacted Klopp’s view on his suitability for Leipzig.
With Ten Hag seemingly out of the race, Leipzig’s search for a new coach continues, with several names still under consideration.
