Juventus may part ways with Douglas Luiz just three months after his arrival, as the Brazilian midfielder struggles to meet expectations.

Douglas Luiz, the 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder, joined Juventus from Aston Villa last summer in a €52 million transfer. Despite a stellar season at Villa, where he scored 10 goals and registered 10 assists, Luiz has failed to replicate his form in Italy, leaving Juventus questioning his future.

Since his arrival, Luiz has made eight appearances for Thiago Motta’s side but has started only once and hasn’t contributed any goals or assists. With just 222 minutes played across Serie A and the Champions League, his performances have disappointed, especially as he has given away crucial penalties in recent games.

In a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, his error nearly cost Juventus the match, but his latest mistake proved costly. During a 1-1 draw against Cagliari, Luiz conceded a late penalty, allowing the visitors to equalize. Although Tuttosport reports that Motta acknowledges Luiz’s technical abilities, the coach is concerned about the midfielder’s lack of intensity and inability to meet the high demands of Juventus’s system, which emphasizes relentless running and tempo.

Juventus plans to give Luiz until January to adapt; if his form doesn’t improve, the club may consider offloading him. Although Transfermarkt currently values him at €75 million, Juventus will likely struggle to recoup such a sum due to his recent performances. Luiz, who has previously played for Manchester City, Girona, and Vasco da Gama, now faces a critical juncture in his career.
